w1130 ~ Dragonfly on Poppy

Image 18 of 40

This Michigan Aeshnid dragonfly had recently emerged from its aquatic nymphal skin, slowly extending and stiffening its wings as fluid was pumped into them. Until its wings are hardened, a dragonfly is extremely vulnerable to bird predation. When fit to fly, a dragonflies are incredibly maneuverable, easily able to capture mosquitoes and evade birds.   If interested in licensing a high-resolution version of this photo, please visit our licensing portfolio at ShutterPoint.com or contact us directly. © Keto and Katie Gyekis
