This Michigan Aeshnid dragonfly had recently emerged from its aquatic nymphal skin, slowly extending and stiffening its wings as fluid was pumped into them. Until its wings are hardened, a dragonfly is extremely vulnerable to bird predation. When fit to fly, a dragonflies are incredibly maneuverable, easily able to capture mosquitoes and evade birds.
