w1230 ~ Sandhill Crane Guarding Nest

Image 27 of 40

The female sandhill crane (Grus canadensis) warily watched my camouflaged form as my kayak slipped silently among the cattails and other emergent wetland plants of a Michigan lake marsh. To ensure that I didn't frighten her from her nest, I used a 400mm telephoto lens (with 2x extender) to capture this majestic image from a distance of more than 80 ft away.   If interested in licensing a high-resolution version of this photo, please visit our licensing portfolio at ShutterPoint.com or contact us directly. © Keto and Katie Gyekis
