Trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator) normally do not breed until their fourth year, and then form strong
pair bonds that can last for many years. While still somewhat rare throughout the Great Lakes region,
trumpeter swans are making a comeback in places like Barry County in Southwest Michigan. This pair of
courting trumpeters was photographed in March 2007 near Barry State Game Area.
