Photographed (2007) in Isle Royale
National Park, Michigan.
While we were photographing pitcher plants and other bog flora deep
within the heart of Michigan's Isle Royale
National Park, this moose (Alces alces) emerged
from the spruce forest in front of us. She was so thirsty,
she didn't even notice our presence for several minutes as
we crouched motionless 30 feet away. Finally she heard the
faint clicking of my camera's shutter and looked back at us, her
eyes wide with surprise!
